Planning With Purpose

The start of a new school year is full of promise, but also plenty of prep. If you’re anything like most teachers, your to-do list is already growing, your mind is racing with ideas, and your classroom is somewhere between a storage unit and a Pinterest board in progress. That’s why getting organized from the start isn’t just helpful, it’s essential!

At Organized Ali, we’re all about simplifying your teaching lifestyle with smart tools, time-saving systems, and sanity-saving routines. So today, I’m walking you through how to set up your teacher zone for success, and how our favorite planning resources can make the process smooth and stress-free.

Setting Up Your Teacher Zone

Your teacher zone is the heart of your classroom workflow. It’s more than your desk, it’s the hub where you lesson plan, manage materials, and (hopefully) enjoy your morning coffee.

Here’s how to set it up for productivity:

  • Designate Zones – Use bins, drawers, or small shelves to divide your space into categories: “To Copy”, “To File”, and day of the week files. This cuts down on piles and guesswork.
  • Keep Your Tools Handy – Pens, post-its, whiteboard markers, lesson plan binder, and tech tools should all be within arm’s reach. Think like a barista, every second saved matters.
  • Use a Planning System That Works – This brings us to your lesson plans. A clutter-free desk means nothing if your planning is chaotic. That’s why we recommend the Lesson Planner templates!

Planning With Intention

Effective planning doesn’t just cover what to teach, it maps how you will teach it. That’s why the daily and weekly lesson plan templates are built around the I Do, We Do, You Do structure:

  • I Do (Modeling) – Script out how you’ll introduce new concepts. Include a “hook” such as posing a question, using a video, picture book, or thinking out loud.
  • We Do (Whole Group Practice) – Plan your questions, checks for understanding and guided activities. Build an anchor chart together, discuss schema and connections, and relate to how this skill can be applied to daily life.
  • You Do (Independent Practice) – Organize your independent work and assessments. Align them to your time frames and standards. Think ahead on what students will do when they are finished. How can you help them with structure and organization of their day as well?

For weekly planning, don’t forget to include small group lessons and center/ independent activities, so you can keep differentiation front and center without scrambling mid-week. Plan your copies and hands-on materials, storage and accessibility, as well as how and when you will meet with students.

Whether you’re a new teacher looking for structure or a veteran teacher refreshing your systems, the Lesson Planner templates will simplify your planning and help you stay consistent!

Why Clipboard Checklists?

Let’s be honest, teaching comes with a lot of checklists. From taking attendance to collecting homework, to tracking behavior and documenting small group data, the paper pile can grow fast. But the real problem? Trying to juggle all of that info in your head or in a messy notebook.

That’s where editable Clipboard Checklists come in, and trust me, once you start using them, you’ll never go back.

These checklists are designed to live on your clipboard and make your day-to-day tasks way more manageable, without mental overload.
